RESEARCH
ROSIE SNELL
My work consists of large-scale, pastoral landscapes, which are either punctuated by military hardware or bare the traces of its use. These began from a fascination with the striking visual counterpoint between military machines/installations and the natural landscape they inhabit. Through the paintings I aim to examining how conflicts and technological developments have not only created purpose built machines but have also left a direct inscription on the landscape. The works are not those of a war artist, presenting a particular battle, or a social documentation conveying a particular political point of view. They encompass both the past and the future, examining concealment, disinformation and the physical and psychological impact war has had and continues to exert upon our environment.
