BA (Hons) Graphic COMMUNICATION
Visual communication shapes how we experience the world. The course reflects the range of possibilities designers employ in print and screen based media and considers how visual communication works in the context of cultural, technological and social change. You'll be encouraged to explore and express your ideas through an understanding of visual perception, image-making, typography, narrative and movement. After a broad introduction, you can opt for pathways in graphic design, illustration or interactive media. Specialist staff provide the practical and conceptual skills you'll need to find your voice and to collaborate to communicate good thinking through effective visual language, for some recent examples of work visit our Postcards mini-site.
Studio and workshop teaching is complemented by contextual and professional studies, study trips within the UK and abroad, visits to museums, galleries and design studios. Tutor-led projects, self initiated work, national competitions, live commissions, a regular visiting lecture series and work placements are all part of the programme. There are well equipped learning facilities and good technical support in specialist craft areas, such as bookbinding, photography and printmaking. In 2005 a successful bid established a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning to provide state of the art specialist resources for interactive design and digital media located in our Artswork Design lab
