BA (Hons) Textile Design for Fashion & Interiors

A fast moving dynamic course for ambitious students who want careers as designer makers, industrial designers or freelance in surface design.

This is a dynamic course concentrating on new technological skills with a strong emphasis on computer aided design. The course is demanding across a wide range of subjects, aiming to produce designers and people of influence in the future.

The course introduces you to a wide range of subjects to enable you to have a good understanding of the academic, theoretical and practical constraints of surface design. The normal pattern of study is 80% practical and 20% contextual studies.

The course offers an initial introduction into all forms of surface design including printed, knitted, woven, embroidered and stitched surfaces. These are heavily supported by a strong research and theory programme to enable you to make an informed choice about specialising in one of the main surface design subjects. You are exposed to a wide selection of opinions and ideas through contact with industry, an exciting visiting lecture programme, visiting tutors all of whom are practising designers, visits to the industry, museums, and student exchanges.

The course supports the opportunities available in Surface Design by offering major areas of study in:

  • Knitting
  • Weaving
  • Embroidery/Stitch
