Visual Design in Combined Awards/Creative Arts
Why Study Visual Design as part of a BA Creative Arts Degree?
The Creative Arts BA gives you an opportunity to combine two creative
subjects in one degree. There are opportunities to make work that combines
both of your chosen disciplines and to take part in collaborations with
students from other departments.
As a visual design subject student you will be working within the Bath
School of Art and Design at Bath Spa University. The school has an excellent
range of specialist workshops and equipment. The staff team is made up of
practicing designers who have wide and varied experience.

What will I study?
During the course you will experience a range of visual design practices.
First year modules include design principles, typography, layout, design
analysis, introductions to relevant design and image manipulation software,
bookbinding and design for online applications. You will also attend
lectures on contemporary design theory and practice.
In the Second Year you will further develop your skills and ideas through
negotiated self-directed projects that consider sequence and narrative
possibilities in design. Lectures and seminars in the second year encourage
a more in depth analysis of design practice. You will also have experience
participating in and organising exhibitions in galleries in Bath.
Third year studies concentrate on producing work for your final degree show,
as well as developing your awareness of your own studio work in relation to
contemporary design theory and practice.
What career opportunities are open to me if I study Visual Design?
Graduates career opportunities include: self employed artist/designer,
teacher (subject to PGCE), community arts worker, curator, arts management,
arts administrator, media, creative industries, designer/maker, printmaker,
set designer, photographer, animator, model maker, film-maker, entrepreneur.
