Why Study Ceramics as part of a BA Creative Arts Degree?
The Creative Arts BA gives you an opportunity to combine two creative subjects in one degree. There are opportunities to make work that combines both of your chosen disciplines and to take part in collaborations with students from other departments.
As a Ceramics subject student you will be working within the Bath School of Art and Design at Bath Spa University. The school has an excellent range of specialist workshops and equipment. The staff team are all practicing makers who have wide and varied experience in making and exhibiting work.

What will I study?
During the course you will experience a wide range of approaches and techniques.
First year modules include throwing, sketchbooks, handbuilding and raku firing. You will also attend lectures on contemporary ceramics theory and practice.
In the Second Year you will learn new methods of designing, making and finishing, and you will develop your skills and ideas via your negotiated self-directed project. Lectures and seminars in the second year encourage a more in depth analysis of ceramic theory and practice.
Third year studies concentrate on producing work for your final degree show, as well as developing your awareness of your own studio work in relation to contemporary art theory and practice.
What career opportunities are open to me if I study Ceramics?
Graduates career opportunities include: self employed ceramicist, designer, teacher (subject to PGCE), community arts worker, curator, arts management, arts administrator, creative industries, set designer, animator, model maker, entrepreneur. Postgraduate opportunities.
